MIXED MEDIA
Most of the work I create is mixed media. My fiber pieces incorporate found objects, paper and paint, my collages contain fiber and stitching, and my assemblages often incorporate all of these techniques. I have even stitched through wood.
What I love about working in mixed media are the effects that come from combining techniques and the layering that occurs through my process. When I start a piece, I often just make a series of marks on the surfaces. They are rarely visible by the end, but they help me to enter the space: make a mark; respond; repeat.
I am often challenged in trying to figure out how to put things together. And I love the backstory inherent in the use of found ephemera and objects, even old pieces of fabric from my stash. They all become bit-actors in the story of the artwork.
